Whataburger, a famous fast-food chain all over the United States, first opened sixty nine years ago in Corpus Christi, Texas. Whataburger has established approximately 824 restaurants across the United States, including Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and New Mexico.

Texas roads have 673 Whataburger restaurants, while the other states have under 50. This fast-food chain, quite popular in the state of Texas, has so many delicious items to choose from.

Harmon Dobson, the founder of Whataburger came up with the idea that he wanted to make a burger so big, that people had to use two hands to pick it up and eat it and say “What a burger!” In 1955, Harmon married the love of his life, Grace Williamson and the two newly weds earned the title “Whataburger’s first couple.” They raised three children and by their ten year anniversary, the couple had opened 21 Whataburger restaurants.

The restaurant started off as family owned and operated, and still holds that title.

A terrible tragedy struck when Harmon Dobson died in a plane crash in 1967. The Whataburger family grieved as they lost a husband, a father, a son, a boss, and a friend.

Loved ones moved and supported Grace Dobson as she took over the business when her husband passed away. The children also helped with the restaurant and brought operations back to normal.

Whataburger offers more than their burgers made on 5-inch buns. The menu grew in 1962 by adding French fries and hot pies. Soon after, the Whataburger jr., jalapenos, and onion rings found a place on the growing menu with the first original Whataburger.

By the end of 1980, Whataburger opened its 300th restaurant. The menu continued to grow as the leaders added breakfast on a bun, what a chick’n, and the famous taquitos. By 1989, Whataburger employees had the privilege to serve hot food at 440 restaurant locations.

Tom Dobson, Harmon’s son, earned the leadership position as President and CEO of Whataburger. The restaurant passed the 500-store goal, making it in the nation’s eighth largest hamburger chain.

Whataburger– a growing restaurant with many more goals to achieve in the future.
