Guess clothing, founded in 1981 by Georges Marciano, holds the title as one of America’s most popular clothing brand for both men and women. Guess markets a variety of fashion accessories such as watches, jewelry, perfumes, and shoes.

Guess began as a book of styles by Georges Marciano and soon expanded to much more with the help of his brothers. Maurice, Georges’ brother, played a major role with the product development. Armand and Paul, also Georges’ brothers, helped with distribution and advertising.

At a younger age, Georges Marciano and his brothers opened a series of stores in France under the name MGA before launching Guess in America in 1981. Unisex jeans held the title as their top selling item. Georges Marciano and his brothers then moved to Los Angeles where they discovered their new idea in jeans at an Italian laundromat.

Georges came up with the company name after driving past a McDonald’s billboard asking drivers to “guess” which restaurant had the biggest cheeseburger. Maurice Marciano said, “Georges came home and said, ‘I think I found our name. Guess.’”

Guess grew as a popular brand denim jeans. Guess also created the first popular designer jeans. While the first jeans targeted women, a men’s line debuted in 1983.

In 2005, Guess expanded the brand by marketing perfume. The company introduced Guess for Women in the spring of 2005 and Guess for Men in the spring of 2006. Guess also added its Guess Kids clothing line which tremendously boosted popularity.

Currently, the Marciano brothers continue to guide Guess as co-chairmen and co-CEOs. As of 2017, Guess announced that ex-Fifth Harmony member and “Havana” singer Camila Cabello will appear as the new face of Guess.
