Founded in 1879, Sam Houston State University remains the third oldest public institution of higher learning inTexas, existing as the home of the Bearkats. Located in Huntsville, Texas, this fine university ranks 17th on Unirank and 23rd on Best Colleges.

This community engaged university functions as one of the most innovative schools, having one of the most diverse group of students. Ranking as a tier 2 school, this fine university has a seventy-two percent acceptance rate, allowing numerous students to apply. Selecting students from those who meet deadlines, Sam Houston State University reviews and evaluates ACT/SAT Scores and applications and requires an application fee of forty-five dollars.

Dividing into six colleges, Sam Houston State University offers the College of Business Administration, the College of Criminal Justice, the College of Education, the College of Fine Arts and Mass Communication, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the College of Sciences. In addition, SHSU has Elliott T. Bowers Honors College, accepting less than 400 students for enrollment.

Offering a wide variety of courses, SHSU has one hundred and forty bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs to choose from. It has achieved recognition from U.S. News and World Report as among the best in the country for online degree programs. In addition, the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll noted it because of, contributing over 600,000 hours of service worth approximately $8.2 million. Offering outstanding programs, Sam Houston State University  operates a remarkable school.

SHSU costs approximately 7,762 dollars, in-state, and 17,554 dollars, out of state, per semester for tuition and fees, remaining substantially lower for in-state students.  This exceptional school for higher education costs much less compared to other Texas colleges.
