Founded in 1927, University of Houston holds a proud heritage for their academic excellence, continuing until this day. In 1947, the institution launched one of its many rich traditions by adopting the cougar, later named Shasta as its official mascot.

Some of the traditions celebrated at University of Houston include the Frontier Fiesta and wear red Fridays to rubbing the paw of the cougar statue in Cullen Family Plaza for luck, and the University of Houston class ring. These traditions continue at the college with some celebrated football games.

University of Houston offers study with 110 undergrad majors and minors, 120 Master’s degrees, 47 Doctoral degrees. The college continues 1st in the nation with its engineering Master’s programs, including 25 research centers for teachers and students to discover and engage in projects. Also, enrolling over 40,000 students, they hold the title for the 2nd best online graduate education program, helping students study and earn degrees not only in the classroom, but also from their own homes.

Other famous majors include business, music, and education. Students can receive a comprehensive education and enjoy some of the best research facilities for learning.

University of Houston prides itself on student success in the community and provides internships, industry partnerships, projects, and alumni leadership. This college stays recognized by the Corporation of National and Community Services for the services that go into the community. The community work that students perform place them on a lifelong path of civic engagement.

Benefits of attending University of Houston consist of attending the Houston Zoo for free when a student brings their college I.D. to attend the science museum for information on a science project for free.
