Relocating from Pennsylvania to Texas with only her family, Mic’kayla Leftridge thought that her life would never return normally, and she essentially started her whole life over. A few months later, finding happiness at New Caney High School, she joined many extracurricular activities, hoping to find herself again, which she did.

At her journey’s start while attending Ross Sterling Middle School, Mic’kayla received a MVP award in both  track and basketball. Receiving this honor truly made her realize that she could achieve anything she set her mind to.  The late nights, early mornings, and diligent work started to surely pay off.

Thrilled about beginning her next chapter in high school life, Mic’kayla lives by the adage “If you dream it, you can do it.” She believes that anybody can achieve anything if he or she to puts his or her mind to it. With that mindset, she plans to earn a high school diploma and many scholarships by her high school career’s end.

Even though school has only opened for two weeks, Spanish II ranks as Mic’kayla’s favorite subject so far. She has an overachieving passion for taking risks and learning new knowledge, and she also plans joining the Spanish club soon.

Committed to balancing her life as a student athlete among track, basketball, and academics, she still strives to achieve excellence in everything she undertakes. This includes attending morning tutorials and staying after school for practices that last two hours long.

Mic’kayla’s wishes to pursue a position as a basketball point guard, and would like to earn  a future spot on varsity track. “My main goal is to go to state for track, and that would be a very wonderful experience for me”, Mic’kayla said as she ties her gym shoes and prepares for basketball practice.

After high school, Mic’kayla wants to attend Texas A&M University or Louisiana State University and wishes to continue playing basketball and track.  Sometime soon, she would like to tryout and earn a position with Women’s National Basketball Association and wants this post as her career.
