Excited for his senior year in high school, Gustavo Salgado hopes to reach his goals after graduation. Although he will miss marching band and football games, still he has many grand ideas for the future. Unlike some students who do not participate in any extracurricular programs or sports, Gustavo’s favorite high school activity includes playing football alongside his teammates, brothers, and friends.

Throughout his high school years, Mr. Kojak ranks as his favorite teacher, consorting well with him, having an enjoyable time every class. Mr. Kojak has highly influenced Gustavo, helping to form his character, shaping his views, teaching him many life lessons other than English.

After playing the clarinet for several years, wanting to learn to play piano, Gustavo has learned much music theory and advanced skills in his band years, building truly meaningful friendships, meeting a diversity of people. Marching alongside his best mates, staying in step, playing his clarinet, watching the drum major, multi talented Gutavo has mostly enjoyed the “Piano Man” marching show, owing to the march’s music style and visual formations. Playing almost all modern music styles, Gustavo especially enjoys the upbeat pop song “Shout It Out”.

Staring as New Caney Eagles left tackle, Gustavo strives for competition, loving every second of his journey with fellow peers. Rather than idly relaxing and looking disinterested, Gustavo walks the field, listening to music before each game, preparing himself for the competition ahead. The “59 Super” ranks as Gustavo’s favorite football play, running to the opposing team’s linebacker alongside his left guard, smashing the rival teams linebacker with intense force.

Helping Gustavo evolve into the excellent player and always there for Gustavo needs, Coach Pendleton ranks as Salgado’s favorite. Gustavo has enjoyed his high school football career owing to Coach Pendleton and his staff, whom have taught him both football and life skills, because they have allowed him to mature into a young adult.

Wanting to pursue a career requiring a college degree, Gustavo hopes to play college football and participate in a college concert band, while he studies his subjects. Although Gustavo has not chosen a specific college yet, he still considers attending University of Houston. Hopeful for the journey ahead, Salgado feels overcome with excitement for his future.

Gustavo Salgado– one of New Caney’s top talented students.
