The second amendment provides U.S. citizens the right to bear arms. Ratified in December 1791,  the amendment says,”A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”.  Unlike previous times when citizens had little input in forming new laws, with the second amendment, citizens can avail themselves by having the opportunity to fight back, and speak out against a tyrannical federal government

Modern society upholds  the declaration’s principle as evidence for the right to bear arms because people wish to carry handguns. Not only can citizens carry a handgun, but also can use it as a self-defense weapon when necessary.

Rather than having a helpless society in a dangerous world, people can now use a weapon to defend themselves, their property, or the lives of others. For instance, people who have a conceal and carry license state that criminals will not likely attack someone they believe has a weapon, adding more security for everyone.

Moreover, concealed handguns protect people who cannot always rely on police forces for protection. In addition, carrying a concealed handgun at an opportune time could help stop a public shooting spree. In December 2007, this law helped stop a massacre at the New Life Church in Colorado when a security guard from church, carrying a concealed handgun, shot an attacker who had opened fire in the church.

Instead of having a fair and reasonable handgun law, the government fails to adequately regulate guns. People who argue this do not see the right to bear arms advantage, and therefore, they may argue that the government should restrict the second amendment law because some people may misinterpret it. How dare they assert this ignorant statement because the second amendment  focuses on protecting individuals’ private rights.

Americans- keep the second amendment strong for protection of citizens!
